Tower of Mortella, the Pigeon Caves on the Cap Corse, anchorage at Lotu for lunch and the sheltered cove of Fiume Santu. A full day of Northern Corsica from the sea.
Seven hours at the pace of sail, from the Cap Corse cliffs to the paradise beaches of
the Agriates desert, a lunch served on board, ten
guests maximum. Our Agriates day trip is our crew’s signature cruise — the one we
recommend if you only make one sailing trip in the region. Here is what awaits you,
hour by hour.
10:00 — Boarding at the port of Saint-Florent
Meet at pontoon E of the Saint-Florent marina, fifteen minutes before departure.
Stan, our skipper, welcomes you with a coffee. A five-minute safety briefing, and we
let go the lines. We motor out of the harbour for the first ten minutes (port
regulations), then Emiliano hoists the mainsail as soon as the wind allows.
11:30 — Swim stop at the Pigeon Caves (Cap Corse)
Heading north along the Cap Corse coast for a first stop at the Pigeon Caves.
Anchorage at the foot of mineral cliffs, in deep blue water. This is a discreet spot
known to the local crew — flights of nesting Audouin’s gulls animate the cliff face,
sometimes a few European shags. A long first swim, with coffee and a few Corsican
sweets at anchor.
12:30 — Heading to the Agriates
Heading south-west to cross the Bay of Saint-Florent towards Lotu. An hour of
calm navigation, often under sail when the wind cooperates, with the scrubland and
Audouin’s gulls as backdrop. The contrast unfolds: we leave the mineral Cap Corse
and approach the dazzling turquoise of the Agriates beaches.
Lunch break
Lunch at anchor
13:30. Anchorage off Lotu beach. Lunch is being prepared. While you swim,
Emiliano prepares a meal on board, composed according to the morning’s market
and adapted to the dietary needs you’ll have shared at booking (vegetarian,
gluten-free, allergies). Our ingredients come exclusively from local Corsican
producers in short supply chains. Giacometi cuvée des Agriates wine
(rosé and white), soft drinks and water included. No set menu on board:
Emiliano composes day by day.
The meal runs to about 1h30, unhurried. It is a moment of shared pleasure
at anchor, and often the most commented part of the day when we return.
15:00 — Past the Tower of Mortella
Leaving Lotu, we cross the gulf to the western point to sail under the silhouette
of the Tower of Mortella, the 1563 Genoese sentinel that inspired the 103
Martello Towers erected by the British Crown across its empire in the 19th century.
A short detour, time enough to take in the schist plunging into the sea. The route
remains weather-flexible: if the wind or the swell make it uncomfortable, the skipper
picks an alternative line.
16:00 — On to the Fiume Santu cove
Back to the Agriates coast for Fiume Santu, one of the best-kept anchorages
along the shore — halfway between Lotu and Saleccia, unreachable from the land.
A sheltered cove whose seabed is covered with posidonia meadows perfect for
snorkelling, far from the shuttles and the beach crowds. Quiet swimming, paddle,
nap under the bimini.
The route remains weather and wind-flexible. On request, possibility of a
short hop to Saleccia — twenty minutes only. The largest and most iconic of
the Agriates beaches: 1.1 km of fine white sand, umbrella pines at the back of the
beach, the clearest water imaginable.
17:00 — Return to Saint-Florent
Return to Saint-Florent via the gulf route. The sail home is usually close-hauled
across the gulf (wind on the nose), in often beautiful late-afternoon light. It is
common to cross paths with a pod of bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) on
the way back — our guests witness them roughly one trip in three, mainly between May
and September. Arrival at the port of Saint-Florent at 17:00.

Who is this cruise for?
The Agriates day trip is particularly well suited to travellers who want complete
immersion in the Agriates without the compromises of a group shuttle or a 4×4
journey. It particularly suits:
Couples looking for a timeless moment facing mythic beaches
Families with children (all-size life jackets, naturalist commentary)
Wine and food enthusiasts who appreciate Corsican food-and-wine pairings
Snorkelers wanting to discover posidonia meadows and local marine life
Photographers seeking anchorages unreachable by land
It is less suited to visitors wanting to walk at length on beaches (we do not
systematically go ashore), or to very tight budgets (group shuttles are cheaper).
Extending the experience
This day pairs beautifully with our other format. For a complementary take on the
Cap Corse, our
full-day Cap Corse-Nonza cruise
brings the yacht to the foot of the perched village of Nonza and its black pebble beach.
And if you travel in a group (birthday, hen/stag party, retreat),
chartering the yacht lets you design a bespoke programme
with personalised menu and free timing.
To fully understand the Agriates before boarding, consult our
complete Agriates guide: history, wildlife, flora, seasons and more.

Why this cruise
Our take
“ This is our signature cruise. The morning takes you to the Pigeon Caves and the mineral cliffs of the Cap Corse for the first swim. Lunch is served at anchor off Lotu. In the afternoon, we sail past the Tower of Mortella before reaching the sheltered Fiume Santu cove. Close-hauled return across the gulf, often with a dolphin encounter on the way back. ”

We recommend arriving 15 minutes before departure — 9:45 AM. Pontoon E is at the heart of the Saint-Florent marina, facing the Place des Portes car park.
